1. The Brief
Create an easy-to-use website for consumers to find out about new Samsung products such as TVs, home theatre systems, blu-ray players and bluetooth speakers. Samsung wanted to educate the consumer about new product line and how much it can improve their entertainment systems at home. We even looked at current competitors of Samsung to see what they were doing.
2. Our proposition
We wanted to make the Samsung TV/AV website unique from the other consumer electronic industry websites. The majority of them focus on product, specs, and images. Instead we want to creatively develop an editorial-type tone for the overall website. Consumers wouldn’t feel that they are reading a bunch of technical specifications, reading model numbers,…but, instead a story to every product. We’ve learnt along the way as we developed these for Samsung’s audience is that creating a narrative of ‘This is what you could achieve at home with Samsung.‘
3. Sketches
The front page options is where I began the basic sketches. Some concepts and ideas were based from news sites and some were inspired by technology websites such as Wired and The Verge.
4. Prototyping
From the basic sketches I created a quick prototype using Axure and Photoshop. I created the homepage and the article page for ‘basic testing’ with the Gadget Group and Samsung staff.
5. Personas
Samsung’s database was useful to us because of the mailing lists. We created mailing lists and even mailed out selected customers of the Samsung product(s). We reached out via ‘vox-pops’ to certain customers in the Sydney CBD and asked them short questions regarding technology and what they thought about the subject. From our brief research, we concluded with three core personas.
6. Testing
Once the layout was decided on, after the initial testing, I designed and set-up a designed prototype website in order to begin the real testing phase. Once the site was up the real proof comes in the viewer or visitors.
7. Final stage
Working closely to the developers and the designers to implement our concepts, designs, testing and research for the final website, we developed the following designs.
