1. The Brief
Samsung wanted a mobile app for retailers and customers to help them learn about the latest in Samsung products. Samsung wanted this to be available online through a mobile app for both the Android and iOS devices
2. Our proposition
From the existing range catalogue, we wanted to make the mobile app easier for the retail staff to use in order for them to quickly understand the features and benefits of each Samsung product.
3. Personas
We did two surveys to accomplish our persona outcomes. First, we sent out email questionnaires to the existing Samsung customers to ask them a series of questions about the product. We asked what they were planning to buy next, what they think is the most important thing you should look out for when you buy a new TV or home theatre system. Furthermore, we did quick surveys at the Domayne store in Alexandria and the Harvey Norman store at Moore Park. From the collective data, we developed the personas that were presented to Samsung. It gave them an idea of how our research would eventually help us out with the Samsung Range mobile app.
4. Wireframing, Sketches & mock ups
We started with some basic sketches from basic design to functionality. We used the software, Sketch, to create a wireframe so we could convey to our programmers on how we are planning the app. We designed some quick mock-ups using the Sketch, so we could present Samsung with some new design concepts based off the data from the persona’s results. We also wanted to communicate with the Samsung product managers about what they would like to see in the mobile app as well.
5. Prototyping and testing
Creating a prototype using the software lnVision, we designed all the mock-ups using Photoshop and Illustrator. We tested the prototypes with the internal Samsung staff, but also visited retail stores and tested the prototypes with the customers. Most importantly, we tested the prototypes with the retail staff since the mobile app was for them to use in order to help them understand the new products by Samsung.
6. Final stage
After feedback from customers, Samsung staff, and retail staff, we designed the final app utilising my skills performed as a UX Designer and Art Director. Therefore, creating a simple-to-use app so retail staff and customers can find out more about this particular product without any hassle became easy for me during the final stage.
